Port Alberni District Secondary School
http://adss.sd70.bc.ca/adss
My first school in Canada was ADSS Port Alberni District Secondary School, I was a guest of Kama Money and the First Nations Team. I arrived at the school during a winter snow storm only to find the school deserted as it was a Snow Day, so day 1 I spent with the teachers in a studentless school discussing teaching pedagogy and methodologies and their similarities and differences as witnessed on my travels so far.
Day 2 the school reopened and I got to spend the day with students from all age ranges and curricula areas. I was hosted by the First Nations Team who expertly showed me aroung the school and told me of their culture, history, hopes, dreams and concerns for the future.

I was invited to the Hummingburde Day Care Centre to see at first hand the wonderful work that is being done here. The centre provides education and day care for children in the community. In addition it supports young mums and enable them to continue with their education at ADSS and elsewhere. Children are educated here from birth to age 5 and its partnership with ADSS and the Alberni Valley Make Children First Network ensures that opportunities for quality education and learning are provided in a caring, nuturing environment.
"Hummingburde Child Care Centre provides quality child care for children birth to 5 years.

Many Thanks to everyone I met at ADSS, Hummingburde Day Care Centre, the First Nations Team and the Alberni Valley Make Children First Network for sharing with me their culture, hopes and dreams. I look forward to revisiting you in the future !
